Have you heard the one about this guy named Dan?
He was a mighty, holy, praying man.
They said, ‘Throw him to the den of the scary beasts.’
But God saved our hero from the lion’s teeth.
This is more than history.
He will do the same for me!
You’re with me!
My God’s the King of the lions
My God’s the King of Me!*
Don’t you love Daniel 6! Daniel stuck to his spiritual discipline of praying. He was faithful. God turned up and protected him from the lions.
And what about Daniel 3. Daniel’s friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into a furnace. God turned up for these three faithful guys, too. They had said to King Nebuchadnezzar, ‘The God we serve is able to deliver us from the blazing furnace… but even if he does not, we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.’
This is the part that hits me hardest: … even if he does not …
For me, the lesson is not so much about the miraculous deliverance that God is able to do as much as that he is worth trusting, worshipping, and obeying
– even if he doesn’t do what we want him to
– even if we don’t understand him or what he is doing
– even if the answer to our desperate prayers seems to be ‘No’
– even if he does not …
Walk a path of continued faith and obedience. Put your life in God’s hands no matter what your circumstances because, even if…, our King can be trusted.
