Bob and I have just spent the week having our three beautiful grandkids stay over while their Mum and Dad have some timeout and a wedding in Perth. As I write this, we’re one day to go and nearly done…physically and mentally! It’s been an amazing experience and we are blessed. It’s also been a time of learning.

What have I learnt? Well to start with, parenting is tiring. Secondly, Bluey episodes have some great parenting lessons, plus we’ve also tried our own grand-parenting skills and I think we passed!  Thirdly, trying to think of places to go with three kids (that aren’t too expensive) instead of having too much screen time has been a challenge. I could keep counting but I’ll stop there for the sake of a shorter article!

I’ve also learnt that kids ask great questions. In the lead up to Christmas there’s been lots of talk about presents and Santa. Yesterday Miss 6 yr old asked why Santa only gave presents to kids who were good. A very interesting question! The two of us talked about how Christmas is a celebration about the very special gift God gave everyone… to those who were naughty and those who were nice. So that begged the question to Miss 6yr old… ‘Who is better for us – Santa or God?’ What do you think she replied?

I am so grateful for the gift of Jesus every day whether I’ve been naughty or nice. This Christmas as we give to others and receive, let’s remember Jesus is the Reason for the Season. May your Season be filled with love, joy and gratefulness.

Happy Christmas everyone!

PS. Hopefully I’ve been nice enough that I might get a small gift from Santa (or his little helper.) I’ll have some milk and cookies at the front door just in case!
